Chechnya: a banana republic dictatorship

Majnat Abdul has released a ' interview last week, to ' Observatory Caucasus in which he speaks of the case Politkovskaya, the plight of the North Caucasus and how effectively the Western civil society can help.

The journalist was a correspondent in Grozny for years for Novaya Gazeta (the newspaper for which Anna Politkovskaya was writing) and Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty. Following repeated and explicit threats, has dropped out of Chechnya in 2004 with the help of a German organization, and since then has lived in Germany, continuing to work as a journalist. Majnat recently told his story in a meeting with PeaceReport .

"From the outset it was clear that the trial for the murder of Anna Politkovskaya" concluded with the full acquittal of the accused, was conceived "as a sham to show the world, and in the first place West, Western politicians and journalists, the Russian authorities would do everything to find the instigator and perpetrator of the murder. "

About defendants acquitted, Majnat states that "it was good that they have condemned, which have not become scapegoats just because you could say to the West" Here we have the guilty. " I am absolutely sure that under the current power of the Russian Federation will never know the names of the principal and performer, will never be called to the bar to respond. At the moment it is not appropriate, it is advantageous for the Russian authorities, to know who is the instigator of the murder, and we will be in power until the current regime, the truth about the murder of Anna Politkovskaya will be kept secret. In twenty, maybe thirty years, we know who ordered it, why and who was a gift to Putin's birthday. But not now

...". When asked about the current situation in Chechnya, Majnat describes "a dictatorship of a banana republic, a dictatorship based on fear and violence, where everything depends on a tyrant. There is no press freedom, there can be no freedom of expression and opinion, any word spoken carelessly can lead to torture, arrest.

And the contribution to make in terms of civil society (as the one at the political level was disappointing)? According Majnat, Western civil society can help in many ways "from the simple interest and desire to learn that goes beyond what is happening under your nose. Not being indifferent is the first step. Even from a practical point of view you can do a lot. Invite young people, students, give them the opportunity to study in Europe, to see how people live, study and work in a democratic society. (...) It 'important that our young people, who live today in an atmosphere of dictatorship, have the opportunity to come here and look closely at the experience of democracy and the life of a democratic society, then return to Chechnya with this baggage. Anyone who has seen even once as we live and work in a democratic country is struck, such as a virus for which he became a healthy carrier, to always keep within them the respect for democratic values, human rights. Then these people with such experience, back in Russia, Chechnya, the Caucasus ... so we expect our students to come here, give them a chance. "

The case "Night Jack"

The stop comes from anonymous blog to London and get in trouble is a cop-bloggers. The creator of the blog" Jack Night ", winner of Orwell prize for months has excited English readers telling of his adventures, mishaps at work, chase sequences and night shifts, describing the suburban English as a poor and degraded reality.

The problems started when a reporter from the Times discovered the true identity of the blogger: This is Richard Horton, of Lancashire police, who attempted to obtain an injunction the court to prevent his name to be released in the press. The British, however, the Supreme Court said no, stating that if a blogger decides to remain anonymous, this does not mean that he has always right and that a newspaper can not reveal their identities.

The need to disclose the identity of the writer responds in this case the right of citizens to know the identity of those who publicly criticize the work of the police. The problem was created mainly by it. The bloggers did not just tell his story but he criticized the actions of the agents, they come to advise those who were under investigation "to complain about the behavior of every police officer and not to show no respect for the justice system and people who work there. "statements rather heavy, especially since they come from a person working in the environment, but that, precisely for that reason probably was aware of incidents that deserved a such comments. In any event, whatever the motivations that have prompted criticism of the British police, the blog is now closed.

Ddl Alfano: a monster that cripples the journalists

On 10 June, a few days ago, the House confidence in the government approved the bill on Alfano to limit interceptions. The result of the vote has sparked an uproar of controversy and criticism, with good reason add. The point of the battle concerns the apparent conflict with the rules of art. 21 of the Constitution provides for freedom of the press. The bill provides for penalties for journalists found guilty of any violation of the prohibitions heavy provided. In practice, the prohibition of disseminating information on any scandal until the end of the process (here in Italy usually does not last long ...), the judicial reporting, resumed after the fascism, no more. Someone bitterly observes that "the scandal of the parties in Sardinia has accelerated the need for Berlusconi's majority to close the game with journalists and judges and remove from the agenda that remains the public debate on the scandals of a head of government that makes us the laughing stock of the united Europe ".

L ' National Association of Magistrates produced a document entitled" the death of justice Criminal in Italy, "because" the rules on wiretapping prevent the police and the judiciary to identify the perpetrators of serious crimes ... This is a proposal that does not introduce the reforms needed to ensure the efficiency of the process, but also inserts new, unnecessary formalism, which will lead to a further extension of time in the process. The resulting unreasonable period of too many trials results in fact the denial of fundamental rights and new forms of private justice ".

Vera Lamonica , confederal secretary Cigl , speaks of a" boon to the mafia and lawlessness. " Lorenzo del Boca, Enzo Iacopino, president and secretary of the National Council of journalists have described the draft law a "monster that cripples the journalists." The Secretary guidizio Fnsi (National Italian Press Federation ), Franco Siddi is that this vote is a very bad news for Italy, for information, for its autonomy violently carved by a wall of prohibition order to prevent publication of news that matter to the civic health. "FNSI, together with the Fieg (Italian Federation of Newspaper Publishers ), has drafted a appeal," duty to inform - right to know " to Parliament, all political forces and the public.

with quotes from experts this could fill a dozen post (quiet, I will not), but I do not think we need to convince us of the fact by competent figures that there is something profoundly wrong with what's going on. Di Pietro said, "are the squares, citizens, civil disobedience." petitions and demonstrations are being organized in many are moving. In particular, the association Article 21, through its website , ask all the political forces and associations to promote, during the debate in the Senate (where he would spend the text passed by the House), a national event dedicated to protection of constitutional values. It would be nice to believe that "the streets and citizens" was still of some, but from my meager experience, I fear that is not true at all.

Optimize your website, without journalists

last lesson we saw how the online journalism is very important technology and not just the content. E 'possible to perform the hancements on the home page to increase access to a site. In this way you will have the results in terms of audience, advertising and management.

The possible interventions we have seen are: optimization of titles, character optimization, outsource codes, "bread crumbs" (the script), optimization of the sources, optimization, or tags of the images and insert links as securities. What changes, for example, to turn a link in a title? The fact that the search engine look like the news. If the photos have their own behalf increases the relevance of the page on a given topic. Outsourcing means not to complicate the code page, which will load faster. It is therefore of little tricks that may be useful to create a site (in our case, a news site) of good quality.

Another issue raised is the difference between meta keywords and meta description: what you see and what you see. The
keyword meta tag is intended to indicate a list of keywords related to the contents of the web page where the tag appears. The choice of words is important because the keywords identified should then be used in the text on the page. Obviously you must not overdo the number of words, but to concentrate on the more "representative". The
meta description tag is intended to provide the search engine a brief description of the contents of the page. The text must then be a brief summary of the topics covered and should emphasize those topics that might interest the reader, as this meta tag is often reported by the search engine queries made by users. The content of this tag should give the user the search engine an idea of \u200b\u200bwhat they find on the page. The description should be simple, effective and discursive. The spectacle of the content is counterproductive, because all the text should be used to communicate information to the reader and not slogans.

In conclusion, those who want to create a good news site can not naively rely solely on the strength of content. These are certainly crucial to keep the player on your page, but first the reader must get to that page. The operator of the website must then pay attention to those techniques that can bring your site to achieve good positions in search results of engines. The main parameters (but not only) on which sites are "promoted" are the text content (if the subject is wanted), and keyword popularity (the number of links). On the web there are several "manual" to help the site manager for its optimization: one such example is " motoricerca , guide the positioning of websites in search engines, "to which I referred to writing this post. Well, we journalists must develop a" thinking computer ".

Information

The network has developed, with time, other information systems: we have "traditional" managed by professional journalists and "alternative" run by amateurs. Then there's this trend, which poses the opposite of the above, and which has been called "the 'information, without journalists "(Pratellesi).

Responsible trials is Google, which launched in the autumn of 2002 the project Google News, a news site that categorizes articles from the media distributed worldwide. As with any online newspaper, the pages are updated several times a day, with the significant difference that there will be no human intervention. To do all the work we think the machine: the technique is based on algorithms that process some 4,500 news sites every 15 minutes, to extract information based on some quantitative and qualitative criteria.

Marissa Mayer, director of Google News, explains what these criteria: - the number of articles on a particular story appeared on internt - the credibility of the source - the current topic.

Using these criteria, the ranking officer among the event top stories and places it in the category. So this is a classification based entirely on mathematical formulas, and was presented by the directors of Google as an opportunity for total objectivity: there is no policy or editorial that may affect the ranking done by machines. On this then we would object. Pratellesi about notes that "the first choice is always within a corpus that can not be as objective and independent as you would have us believe."

A person who chooses to see only Google News would certainly have to keep abreast partial information, as are the exception, for example, the entry of minorities and that part of humanity has no access to technology.

Google News is not the only experiment of Robo-Report: We NewsBlaster fact, invented by a group of researchers at Columbia University in New York. The computer uses artificial intelligence techniques to browse the news online, choose and synthesize them. Interpret the importance of the facts by taking into account such factors as the place where the news is, many times repeated in different articles and the significance of the accounts. A similar program was developed at the University of Michigan and is called NewsInEssence .

We infer that the machines and artificial intelligence to retire before we have started our career in journalism? According to Pavlik (the executive director of the Center for New Media at the School of Journalism at Columbia University) we should not worry about "artificial intelligence tools such as NewsBlaster NewsInEssence and have a useful place in the information age to save time search for information online and to help check the accuracy of its information, but should always be used with a bit of healthy skepticism. Also because these programs will never be able to generate original news report or chronicles. This is still the exclusive territory of the humans. "

short, for the moment we are still in a novel by Asimov ...

The video- cv: new form of presentation of self

last lesson, we mentioned a phenomenon that we in Italy still little known and widespread: the video curriculum . More or less all of you, like me, you've already been having to draw up a paper in there and you been faced with the difficulty of condensing into a list of data and ability to your profile. On the web there are many documents dealing with the importance of the curriculum, as a "calling card" of the candidate, when there are even tips on how to set it and cut to give the impression to convey the "right". However, the paper is limited and is always something out.

This rock can perhaps be overcome with the video curriculum, which has already made its way in the process of recruiting, at least in the United States. Last year they covered the topic on Corriere della Sera and Il Sole 24 Ore in two interviews with Massimo Rosa, professional headhunters . In essence, one of the headhunters in which large companies are turning to a more targeted recruitment and refined.

Asked if the curriculum is video shot on farms in Italy, Rose responds: "Television for years educating ourselves and our children with the rule that it is better that appear to be. The companies and their recruiters have therefore begun to view the video-cv. In the U.S., this method of presentation is revolutionizing market research and jobs. According to some surveys, 65% of them feel that the video application would shortly become an integral part of the selection process. "

benefits compared to old-style curriculum, have the immediacy, the freedom of expression and the ability to reach their destination faster. In his

site, Massimo Rosa stands and bears three examples of video-cv:
- basic
- with added
video graphics - creative.

The important thing is that it is not amateurish, hastily packed, in short, like homemade dumplings. Rosa himself proposes a kind of manual (pdf format) to create a "video-cv winning" and also the site pnbox.tv , in the section , public advice on how to structure the movies, through examples of those who have already tried.

I think it would at least unusual for all of us get there, in front of a camera, and try ...

Neelie Kroes: potential plug alongside Berlusconi

What makes us Berlusconi's face on campaign posters, in these days, their walls walls of Amsterdam? What is the relationship between our Prime Minister and the Board of Directors, the party of opposition to the deployment at the European Parliament who now holds the majority (of the Liberal VVD )?

To understand, it seems necessary to step back and return to the thorny question of the frequency distributions of Italian television. As some of you will recall, the European Commission opened an infringement procedure against Italy. The current EU Commissioner for Competition, Neelie Kroes , was the promoter of the 20 questions put to the Italian government for an explanation about the lack of transfer of Rete 4 on satellite and the changes to the scheme television. The

Kroes considered "incomplete" answers Executive and, in fact, the infringement proceedings are not interrupted. The inspector has also been entrusted with the task of giving or not the go-ahead to land on Sky digital. The removal of

Kroes, "the elephantine potential thorn in the side of Silvio Berlusconi and Mediaset Premium ", from his supervisory role in the projects of the Competition Board is currently under advantage in winning a place in 'Euro MPs. This explains the sudden passion for the Dutch policy of Berlusconi and his fate ...

Information online: redundant and formulaic

Variety supply information on websites is far from being as abundant as one might imagine. And, worse still, this offer is massively "redundant" and "stereotypical" news websites disseminate same news at the same time, with extreme concentration of production on a small number of topics that dominate the scene completely. This is the conclusion I came to study " Internet, diversity and redundancy of information " presented at Athens, May 6 to 9 (available on the site Nikos Smyrnaions in pdf format).

An account of the research is posted on the blog of Narvic, Novovision . "The big interest of this study, "says the blogger" is to be one of the first to conduct scientific analysis on the statistical nature of the content of news coverage on the popular Web-speaking (but certainly contains elements of generalization). It has the merit of analyzing a wide range of sites and not to focus only on the sites of the press generated by traditional media and the "pure players" of journalists, but to broaden the field of web portals, aggregators, the webzine and blog.

In search of the long tail of information. "Going in search of what the" long tail theory "could possibly apply to information on current Internet, researchers have been forced to soften its conclusion. The study is based on news published in November 2008 and focuses particularly on days 6 and 10 November by making semi-automated statistical analysis of several thousand items generated from dozens of sources. Researchers have established a procedure to automatically aggregate into "topics" articles on the same event with the observation of recurrences language in texts. They then observed the distribution of the report the number of articles / variety of topics, providing a sort of index of pluralism of news online. They have done a step further by analyzing the treatment of the same subject in different articles that confront him, to provide a sort of index of originality. "

The realm of" news agency in bursts. "The result is without appeal: the information network is massively" redundant "and" stereotypical " . Stated differently, the information sites dealing with the same arguments, same time and in the same way, and the variety of these topics is extremely low. "Narvic him as" the kingdom of the news agency to burst. "" The distribution of results broadly responds to the principle of "law of Paretto": 80% of the articles focus on 20% of the subjects, 80% of the other topics are treated from 20% of the articles other, often by a single item (ie only one source). The recurring use of language in the actual formulation of several articles on the same subject shows that this is actually the same cast of press agencies, almost entirely copied.

Exceptions to this practice sites: Agoravox, web journalism citizen; Bakchich, political webzine, The Post, another site of participatory journalism and blogs.

"On balance, the extreme concentration of manufacturing information on a small number of subjects ultra dominant is not compensated by an extreme variety of topics covered in the long tail. In fact, the tail is too short and not enough dense than the model expected. The redundancy information dominates.

"The researchers put forward several explanations of methodology and background. The sample of sources considered perhaps underestimates the production of webzines and blogs, which publish less and not daily. At bottom, the ephemeral nature of current non-expiring soon would find the effects of the fund, which are for music or literature. "

journalism flights on the Internet. " More profoundly, the researchers advance another explanation: the economic conditions of production of information on these sites.
"Recent research on the conditions of production in online newsrooms shows a strong tendency to high productivity. The online journalism tends to favor the rewriting and re-publishing existing content at the expense of service (reportage) original. One element of our study confirms that this trend is that the sources of our sample are more redundant portals without any team of journalists, free newspapers with small newsrooms and radio and television stations that have a limited production of textual content. We can deduce that the special conditions of production in these information sites online have a greater impact on the diversity of its content.

"Stated differently, it is quite logical but it is hardly reassuring: the diversity of information given is proportional to the number of journalists employed. Other than that, and the researchers acknowledge that further studies to determine this, what remains is determining the relationship between the diversity of provision and the reality of the use of Internet information. "

" The data that you have not in the field, quite encouraging: the audience of the portal sites "without journalists," the pure "news agency Burst" largely dominates that of the media sites that offer information and journalists have more original and diverse. Must conclude that the quality, online, does not pay? Or, rather, that the request for information major Internet users are concentrated on the type of information proposed by these "news agency in bursts? Why just them this information? Why are wary of other forms of information produced by journalists? It would be really bad news for journalism ...".

I translated this post from the blog Novovision (and I apologize if there is any imperfection here and there) because, although the analysis is for the French-speaking web, it seems the feature of redundancy of information belongs also to the Italian media sites. What do you think?

The Only Constant Is Change Volcom

The quality of governance is not a private matter

Also this morning, like any other in recent weeks, at least one of the Opening of the first three news online national newspapers about our famous prime minister. The news today is that the Times criticized and attacked him in his editorial . I mean ... The Times, not Pincopallino ... I find it rather worrying. But Berlusconi responded with the usual refrain, "are all false insufflate (I learned a new word) from the left." Sure, why rather than be a minimum of self-criticism and think for a moment the consequences of his behavior is much better than the blame on those bad guys of the left, who hate him so much and want to defame him.

Berlusconi invokes the law to protect his privacy, but it should go and read the code of ethics privacy, delivered by the Order of the Office of the Supervisor reporters July 29, 1998. Us, that we had him to investigate, we know that the privacy of public figures can only be breached if the news have a significant role in their social or their public life. This principle is explicit in the two main functions of the press in a democracy: to spread news that help to shape public opinion and to monitor and criticize the various authorities and private institutions. The point is this: If Mr. Berlusconi was no one could even arrange bacchanalia in his house with the guarantee that a journalist would not have permission to document the fact and make it known. But since Berlusconi is nothing less than the prime minister ... The Times this out well in the summary: the quality of governance is not a private matter.

The editorial begins: "The worst aspect of the conduct of Mr Berlusconi is not the fact that it is a jingoistic fool. And even that is accompanied with women younger than 50 years, abusing his position to provide jobs as models, personal assistants as well, it sounds absurd, candidates for Parliament. What is most shocking is the utter contempt with which it is the Italians. " Later you write that Berlusconi's private life is obviously private but then he recalls the example of President Clinton. "Many people may also say that Italy is not America: that the standards of the Puritan ethic in the United States has never dominated the Italian public life, and few Italians were shocked by womanising (a womanizer). This is not sense. The Italians understand well, as Americans, what is and what is not acceptable. "

course I understand! Now the walls have also understood that the conduct deprived of the dignity of the prime minister is outrageous and inappropriate for his office. And he is doing something for our country, in the eyes of the world, a great figure .......

Cerical Mucous Day 20

restrictions for countries under U.S. embargo

" Microsoft has deleted the Windows Live Messenger IM users in countries placed under embargo by the United States, which is why Microsoft will no longer offer the Windows Live service in your country . This is written as a justification in the support page, users attempting to connect. The news appeared on the official website a few days ago Cuban CubaDebate and taken up by Corriere della Sera. Besides Cuba, the countries are penalized Iran, North Korea , Syria and Sudan .

This decision seems inconsistent with the latest measures announced by the President of the USA. Obama had in fact eliminated in April, the restrictions on travel and remittances by Cuban - Americans who have relatives in Cuba and, more recently, has proposed the resumption of meetings with the island on immigration. On the site

Cuban explains that to get around the block, just change your country of residence in the program settings. A temporary solution, however. This measure can weigh further on the situation of certain countries that do not stand for freedom in communication. Just to refresh your memory, we know that in Iran Facebook has been banned for three days to the elections, the Popular Core R EPUBLIC is in an extremely closed and repressive, leaving no leak outside its borders any kind of information (think of the measures concerning the use of mobile phones, which involve both the local population and tourists who are retired and returned at the time of departure); that Syrian authorities have blocked Facebook as a "vehicle of Israeli culture that could corrupt the morals of young Syrians," and finally that the Sudan is under threat of closure of social Network: the Declaration of Rights and Responsibilities proposed by Facebook in fact deny the use of the service jobs to countries under U.S. embargo (point 4.3). Regarding this Statement of Rights and Responsibilities I am a bit ', as they say, but by the fall. I did not know it was in the approval process, nor even that there was a chance to vote (until April 23) by using a special application . Maybe some of you are more awake and aware of me ... however, as the vote was concluded and with what results we have reached a final decision? Frankly I have not found clear answers, if anyone knows more ... comment!

Facebook, between enthusiasm and Advertisement

Facebook is a phenomenon that can hardly be ignored: everybody talks about it, the media report news concerning him and also subject of some importance when it comes to exploit it to communicate with the public. Probably not even its creator, Mark Zuckerberg, could have imagined such a success. After all, the basic idea was simple: create a social network that would allow students to universities and high schools around the world to maintain contact with each other. Yet, in July 2007 figure of the top ten most visited websites in the world and in 2008 there has been a real boom. Among other things, Italy is high on the list of countries with the greatest increase in the number of users. Welcome, then this new powerful tool of communication and sharing ... no? Not really. A social network is made up of people, and people, you know, are not perfect ... The dizzying ascent of members shows his unquestionable success, over time, however, have begun to emerge the likely criticism and controversy. Just look for the word "facebook" in the archive of Repubblica.it and Courier and see how many cases of the news (often black) is connected ...

Experts have bread for their teeth. Jason Alba, communication expert, has written a book about ( I'm on Facebook - Now What?? ), which focuses on the intersection of confirm or ignore : what to do when asking friendship is an unpleasant person? The ignorant, you say. According to Alba instead is a situation that often affects the user and forces him to resume contacts with the past by surrounding unnecessary friends. The president of Netdipendenza explains that many people are obsessed by the thought of increasing circle of friends, to be considered popular . According to Danah Body (researcher at the School of Information at UC Berkeley) social networks used to the real life: "we are moving towards a society of people more and more awkward and less accustomed to facing. Write a sentence every now and then it is easier, so here because we also accept friends who do not consider themselves as such. " Alessandro Meluzzi, psychotherapist, Facebook is a communication tool unexplored "until a few years ago our lives were identified with a uniform path that allowed us, year after year, to sum among those who went and those who remained. There were past and present. The social network is no longer the distances transforming the past into a continuous present. " This eternalizzazione of life can have interesting effects, but it is to consider the risk of compulsive use, the risk of the syndrome of hyper-reality.

policy. An element that can not fail in a society, virtual or real, is politics. The debate moves from the bar to social networks. In addition to numerous groups named after political figures, they too have their own page on Facebook, followed in person or, more likely, by the secretariat. Veltroni, during the party organized by his "friends" on Facebook December 13, 2008, said he regarded the network as a "tool to meet the Italians." Good intentions or self-promotional maneuver aimed to gather support? In any case, the profiles of political riconcorrendosi increase in a race for popularity, the number of fans becomes a trophy to show off.

groups. Belonging to a group aspect of a user's status, from a simple preference to his political beliefs, or taking a position on a topical issue. Within the group born discussions, comparisons and, sometimes, real fights. There are plenty of examples ... I remember the group in favor of Toto Riina and the controversy regarding its removal, the groups in support of Saviano with a collection of signatures and sit-ins, many groups for or against the Gelmini reform, the difficult struggle to remove groups of orientation openly racist, but you re-create, in disguise. It can also be organized via Facebook protests, as in the sensational case of the first hunger strike in Saudi public, whose participants are organized through the network. Serious subjects alternate with controversy manifested in a more ironic.

From reality to the screen Return . You find yourself on Facebook and then we find ourselves in reality. Apparently, many of the virtual links lead to a meeting face to face, often collectively. Gatherings organized by the class to revise his old comrades at mega party with invitations extended to thousands of people. It 'happened in Rome, then it was the turn of Milan and Bari The so-called Facebook Party have been very successful, although there have been disappointments of those who have complained about the inability to socialize (given the huge crowds) or that people are more sociable on the net. It is difficult not to think that the possibility of coming into contact with a large number of people does not encourage superficial relationships. How to deepen when you are moving en masse, in order of thousands? Many friends, too many = no true friend. Privacy

, this unknown ... Facebook has been called "collective autobiography" at your fingertips. Perfect definition, because users write at any time, what they do, what they did, where they were, who they met ... Experts speak of the "paradox of privacy." Put simply: when you ask questions, offering guarantees of privacy, the answers are scarce. When privacy is not named, the secrets abound. Not evoke risk in short, makes people very willing to talk. It 'still a fact that only a quarter of users Facebook uses to size controls how much information about you other people can see. And the point is that do not seem to care. And yet the news regularly shows us that excessive exposure can cause problems. While parents are enthusiastic about this new means of controlling the children, some spies have less justifiable intentions: the case of stolen identities and profiles handled the discovery that Facebook is one of the sources of information preferred by hiring managers and recruiters in companies colleges, several cases of dismissal, the phenomenon of the party that track vandals parties and appear on the site without being invited, not to mention the phenomenon of cyberbully and pedophiles. Yet these negative examples do not appear to increase the users awareness of the need to protect their privacy. Indeed, the threshold of attention on what is prudent to make public self seems to subside.

With all its limitations, drawbacks and defects, is an indisputable fact that Facebook is the most popular social network at the moment (as it was before him, MySpace). Its future depends on the persistence and passion of its members. Surely, one such technology that can eliminate distances and create communities in which we find ourselves sharing views and experiences, is highly seductive power. That should survive beyond its simply be a fad.

problems on the network. Nielsen says ... Among

In class we mentioned last Friday, marginally, also the subject of advertising on online newspapers and, more generally, on the net. At the invitation of prof. I went to watch the latest data on the subject. The data source is Nielsen , a valuable source when it comes to data as it offers online, among other things, marketing information and market measures. Let's look at Media Monthly Report April 2009: The advertising is going through a difficult time in the first two months of this year there is a drop compared to the corresponding period of 2008. The reduction applies to all media (including the press as a whole, radio, cinema, etc..), With the exception of the Internet!

The decline in advertising is part of a more general phenomenon of reduced investment in the economic downturn. Internet had already given a positive signal in 2008 over the previous year, and even 2009 was opened with the same trend, however, inserting a growth that has lasted for years. There are many ways to advertise online, but the most prized by investors is the 'banner AD. What is? Basically it is a system for management of advertising campaigns on a site, in the form of banners and buttons. It is expected that in the coming year, bids for major advertisers will be made up of Internet and broadband. With the growth of video entertainment services (web TV, IPTV, HDTV) create new opportunities for contact with the end user. These innovative forms of advertising are definitely competitive advantages compared to advertising in traditional media: the ability to seek a more specific, more segmented and profiled, in addition to the greater immediacy and efficiency. Another slice of opportunity is represented by mobile broadband, data penetration, almost universal, mobile phones and their development in terms of multimedia services.

Breasts In Push Up Bra

protection of copyright, censorship, net neutrality ... what a mess!

One of the great advantages that the Internet has given us is the ability to exchange data and information: articles, pictures, music, video. But the ease of access and diffussione not exclude the fact that much of this material is the subject of intellectual property rights. It 's a difficult concept to apply to the online world, perceived as free and without barriers. This sensibility is reflected in the position of those who argue that everything published on the Internet becomes public property or in the theory (all U.S.) of free consent, according to which the publisher the network automatically entitle the free reproduction of the work by third parties. We try to do some 'clarity and to proceed with order.
The copyright is the set of regulations on copyright in force in Anglo-Saxon world and the U.S.. A term commonly used as a synonym for our copyright (governed by law 633/1941), despite some differences between the two standards. The
copyleft is a specific mechanism for managing the property rights of software is based on a licensing system through which the author indicates to users that the work can be used, although subject to certain preconditions. This principle is applied in the free software, released under a license, as opposed to proprietary software and open source differs from the concept (in this case the authors of free software will encourage the study and the contribution changes from other programmers). An example of copyleft licenses are "Creative Commons", born in the United States in 2001. These licenses allow you to know in advance the conditions under which the information (music, pictures, videos, etc..) Can be used without infringing copyright. Provide for six levels, ranging from the banning of the author quote used for profit. However, on the issue of copyright on the net there is still no fixed rule, the interpretations are discussed. There is a formal copyright on the Internet, if that is not explicitly expressed.
A good online journalist should always ask the question whether the documents sent across the network to be used, and in what form. In Italy, as I said, we as a guide to the law 633 of 1941 on copyright. In particular, Article 70 tells us that allowed the summary, quotation or reproduction of fragments or parts of the work for purposes of criticism, discussion or teaching. Of course it must always be mentioned as author and publisher. In all other cases you should request authorization to the holder of rights in practice that the network is not highly respected and where it is often used to copy-paste. However, the Court has spoken widely on the subject by saying that a publication on the internet should be considered as intellectual work in a creative nature and therefore protected under copyright law. To learn more, the network has a site that addresses the topic, especially in light of technological innovations: http://www.dirittodautore.it/

In March, the European Parliament has examined the so-called Telecoms Package (bill for the reorganization of the telecommunications sector) that has sparked protests and reports from users, worried about the possible censorship of the means of the Internet (see, for example, this video posted on youtube). In a press release on the website of the European Parliament we learn that, for now, the compromise in this regard has been dropped. On May 6, still in the approval of the package, the assembly (by an overwhelming majority) said yes to the amendment strengthens the rights of citizens online: it requires the explicit provision of a court order to disconnect a user on the web. This has been called "a political punch Nicolas Sarkozy" (from Mastrolonardo on Visionpost ), why? Easy: because according to French law Hadopi , strongly supported by the president, just to disconnect the decision of an administrative authority. This anti-piracy law was finally approved by the French Senate on May 13. In practice, there is the disconnection from the Internet to the user who is caught illegally downloading works protected by copyright. A track called pirates will think the Hadopi, an agency of the State, which will send the first two warnings (and mail and personal letter) and if these are ignored, to cut the connection for at least a year. The law is clearly directed in the opposite direction to the EU's guidelines, by the rejection of the telecoms package, emphasized the role of the Internet as a fundamental right of European citizens. Yet Sarkozy has admirers here in Italy: the main representatives of the content industry, who sent an open letter to French President (and, for information, Berlusconi and others). The text of the letter site is listed in the copyright as I mentioned before.

remains open the question of net neutrality: the Parliament has given it the green light to Harbour maxi amendment, which enables connectivity providers to monitor traffic and impose restrictions on the activities of online users. And the future of the Telecom Package? Mastrolonardo enlightens us about "in principle, on June 12 near the Telecom ministers may decide to accept it as it was voted. More likely, however, that you give to start a new process of reconciliation in September, a path at that point will take place and a new parliament under the Swedish Presidency. The composition of the next meeting will therefore be decisive. The fact makes the elections more important for those who care about the fate of the Internet as a platform of democracy and innovation ".

already begin to apologize for the length of this post and to the countless references, as I wrote it myself I'm a bit 'bored. The fact is that the question itself is complicated and not talked about much, at least not on the front pages of newspapers online, which we usually see. This is demonstrated by the fact that almost no one in class raised his hand to the question: any of you have been following the case? I hope I have clarified a bit 'of the situation, now's your turn: what do you think of the issue "net neutrality" and the attitude of France?

International newspapers, online only, European and local information

The lesson of Friday we have touched various topics: international newspapers online, newspapers, online only, the issue of copyright, the European newspapers and local information.

left the United States. The site of the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/ ) is built exactly like a paper magazine: very simple but very clear. It 'obvious that give value to the texts that the Italian newspapers do not. The column menu is narrow and reduced to make way for a sort of sheet of paper. The construction of the site could be defined as a pastry: virtually every time you turn the page, deepens, as if each subject was in itself a newspaper. This kind of construction is also on the sites of major networks and news agencies. Home page are therefore a central image, an outline of information and the opportunity to deepen. Taking the example of the second proposal news Yesterday the home page of the NYT, we could see what there is rigor in the preparation of the news itself and its proper use, a quality not found in Italian newspapers on line. Insert hyperlinks within the text of the news is the absolute practice in Anglo-Saxon system. The page where the news is becoming a sort of internal database that provides news and related the story of the character (in the case analyzed part, Obama). So interactivity and the ability to "learn more" is provided to you so that it leaves the site to look for information elsewhere. In this sense, the site of the NYT is a real trap that is difficult to exit prior to meeting the information needs. The NYT also has a unique writing (for print and the web) so that the value of writing online because it increases the site together even the big names of the head. The news is divided between the more read, more expeditious, more blogging: it is a refining of the classification of the Italian Popular News. Another difference from that applied in our country there is no need to break the news to keep the player on their pages.

CNN, American all-news television channel, ( http://www.cnn.com/) has a site more modern than the NYT, but even here, in the news The reasoning of the first and deepening the internal database. Taking a look also to news agencies, Reuters and Associated Press (which I mentioned in a previous post), we realize the diversity of approaches to information than in the UK and, more generally, to Europe. Broadband, connections easier, the possibility of access, habit, the large capacity comparison between different realities (blogs, radio, television channels) lead to increased need for the user to be able to differentiate in-depth ' offer. In Italy, 80% of the market for online news is instead divided between two major newspapers and two news agencies.

Turning to the newspapers only online, turns out to be the most widely read Huffington Post ( http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ ), born in 2005 as a blog. In fact, the blog keeps the setting: a proposed list of news with their comments. Very fast, very immediate in the texts, the newspaper founded by Arianna Huffington has managed to capture and hold, accumulate, the attention of many readers. Every blogger has his own mini-website within the site Huffington, who becomes like a container. The costs are relatively void and can boast a lot of publicity. In Italy we have a sort of equivalent of the Huffington Post, such as logic: Dagospia ( http://www.dagospia.com/ ). Here, instead of Arianna Huffington (who attends the good salons in Washington and New York), we have the journalist Roberto D'Agostino, which offers content and deals with general background. The big difference is that on the news Dagospia is commented out, so you can not talk about blogs, and the text is a simple copy and paste.

On the subject of copyright / copyleft return later in a separate post, given the complexity of the topic. I conclude with a quick couple of notes:
- speaking of European newspapers as we learned in all countries except Italy, the watchwords are: navigability, accessibility and usability. Fissiamocele well. I sites visited have more or less all the same features and differ mainly from the American model for the lack of hypertext. A special case is, however, the Guardian (which I have already talked about earlier, when he won the Webby for best online newspaper): The home page is essential and very reminiscent of CNN and Reuters. He has very few images to give a further enhancement to the advertising. Like the NYT, the text of the news It contains hypertext links to provide more depth and stem the outflow from the page looking for information from the user. Finally we saw that in addition to the traditional option of printing the article and send it by mail, add to share (share), to add it to your "clippings file" and contact the editorial office (for reporting errors or for any other type of need).
- local information I have already talked about when I presented the opportunity to read the news regarding my city. A lesson we talked about how there is a dimension of the Internet: everything is relative to a point of view of area, distance and time. Every reality (area) and any news at all times, is a matter of interest to someone. Large portals, such as the Courier or the Republic, create, where they present their printed newspapers, including the online version (except for their version Local Parma for the Republic, where there is no consideration in paper). The fact that the Italian sites are very horizontal leads them to confuse the sites of local newspapers with those of national newspapers. This translates into an advantage, however: they can afford to offer a range of light duty, as part of a highly structured agenda, which can provide all the information service.

29 Weeks Pregnant Pressur

Tips for survival

This morning I read the book of Mark Pratellesi, New Journalism, and I found some pretty interesting ideas in the section on the post-Internet newspaper. If anything is killing print, it is said that the senior manager is the web, which could become a rather convenient excuse. The crisis of the newspapers it before the internet: the decline in sales becomes unstoppable in the 90's, when the network was in its infancy. The crisis, however, was underestimated by the publishers, because the copies but lowered advertising revenue remained high. Only with the crisis of the revenues side (those combined with the newspapers) and advertising has exploded the concern of the fate of newspaper paper.
Since it is now obvious that newspapers can not fight with online information on the ground of the exclusivity of the news (which come first in a network) you must move the challenge on the quality of information. Here, then, that in a when we have forgotten the figure of the journalist who uses the sidewalk in search of news and we replaced it with the edge of your PC, Pratellesi dusts off an old idea: "The newspapers must return to impose an agenda setting using power that other means have not: a number of journalists to be sent out to search for news, ideas, ideas first hand. We must rediscover the value of the witness free, intelligent, curious, able to get as excited about what that will fascinate the readers. " An idea anachronistic compared to the current context? Maybe, but I like the concept ...

The author then proposes a list of activities on which the papers should focus on recovering a prominent role information:
- build a strong influence on the community through investigative journalism.
- dedicated to the interpretation of events explaining the context and providing in-depth analysis.
- maintain a profile of strong reliability.
- publish exclusive interviews.
- to produce interesting and reliable reporting.
- give opinions on current issues.

If a good strategy primarily on the knowledge part of the "enemy", the author invites the question: What value the reader on news sites? The answer is that one of the strengths of online newspapers is interactivity, because it makes readers feel as active parts of a community contributing, through their choices and opinions, the selection of news. This is a good starting point. Pratellesi suggersice create a link between that site and might bring the newspaper readers, making them feel involved even the choices of the second. How? For example, asking them what topics they would like to see explored in the newspaper. Or reserving a space in the newspaper to publish the best work of readers online. These are obviously only a hypothesis, but the trial is certainly a good way to ensure the coexistence between the two media.

Institutional communication

Institutional communication about those realities, precisely the institutions that they do not like the gain but instead should provide information to public duty.
The site of the Italian Government ( http://www.governo.it/ ) is very static, for an objective reason related to the fact that, being a public institution, the rules of accessibility and usability they have to be respected (by following the protocols of international W3C). The site lists all the essential information about the government, its composition and its actions. In the "government information" can refer to the press, audiovisual, dossiers, press reviews, the photographic archive and communication campaigns. In the contact page are first of all address and telephone number of the Palazzo Chigi. Then there is the possibility of contacting the preparation of the site, send an email for information on the newsletter, and to request general information on the measures adopted by the Council of Ministers is necessarily complete an inquiry form where you must indicate: name, email address, city and location. This service is related to the need for transparency in government legislation. It would be interesting, as the professor pointed out to us, please check the response time ...

The site of the English Government ( http://www.la-moncloa.es/default.htm ) has a strong institutional sense and a great coverage of all the elements of economic development and social participation. In this case there is a specific section dedicated to contacts, but depending on the page where you are located, clicking on contactar opens the window to send a text (maximum 500 characters).

The site of the British government ( http://www.number10.gov.uk/ ) has a much more "blogger", a view very instant. In the majority of contacts have indicated that both the postal address and email address to write to the Prime Minister (was reported that the response is not guaranteed because of the amount of mail they receive).

We have seen then as the site of the French Government ( http://www.elysee.fr/accueil/ ) there is a custom figure of the president.

"The news is free but the information you pay for!"

Back again to the fore the question of whether free or not consultation of online newspapers. This time the problem arises in the protest of many everyday Americans who point the finger at the owners of news aggregators: it seems that they earn merely illegally exploit the information collected and published online by the editors of newspapers and periodicals. He says its also The Guardian, defining "unethical" the aggregator of Google and the chorus of protests is not lacking the great Murdoch who, as owner of the Wall Street Journal has put his mouth on the subject. In fact, the aggregators are limited to sound automatically at the network, to offer a short summary of the news and then send the user at the source where you can learn the complete and detailed. Murdoch moves the heart of the matter, the theoretical non-recognition of the authors of the news from users of the system feeds, the usual problem of the economic model of free decreeing vanished era of online news.

A fact of which we can all be more or less certain is that Internet surfers are accustomed to a world in which the contents are free, free, free (and however, already pay to use the connection). This goes for any content, music, video, documents, and also applies in the field of information. The only reason able to change this habit must relate to something that can be perceived by you as a really valuable and useful (as is the case for economic and financial news sites, which are often an essential tool for those working in finance). In most cases, therefore, those seeking information on the Internet is not willing to pay them. The publishers have now landed in the network had to deal with this attitude of the users, because every newspaper has as its primary goal to inform but to survive has to deal with economic constraints.
Currently there is no single model of economic livelihood, but many strategies: consultation on payment of a subscription, but not very successful, and the free consultation with advertising, which allows the user to obtain information for free but in the context of advertising. The risk here is that you develop forms of advertising is too invasive to force you to pay attention to advertising that would otherwise be ignored, and the pay-per-use, with which consultation is free but news of the offer of the site is differentiated by a series of value-added services fee (for example, the ability to search the archives, information services via SMS, etc.) then you can use the syndication : the sale of content created for your site to other companies on the Internet or outside the network.

The fixed point of view not to be missed is that there should be based on the needs of readers / users that need to be met more and more. In my opinion Carelli (in G iornali and journalists from the network) is not wrong when he says that the future of online newspapers perhaps lies in the ability to weave a close relationship with their users, an interactive relationship through which readers can exercise their desires and to offer journalists information rich and constantly updated.

online newspaper "home" ...

In previous posts I discussed the online newspapers referring only to national newspapers. The phenomenon has involved of course the newspapers of each city. As for my hometown, Parma, there are several sites that inform about what is happening in the Duchy ...

Firstly we have the website of Gazzetta di Parma: http://www.gazzettadiparma.it/ the newspaper of the city and the province that boasts the title of one of the oldest newspapers in Italy (the first number known dates 1735). The site structure is very simple, less messy and easy to use. Above is the name of the head flanked by two other links to the city's major media, television and radio, respectively, radio and tv parma parma. Below is the news ticker that scrolls the national character. Then the classical division in three columns: left to the news, in that the middle categories than the ranking of most-read stories, information on traffic and the initiatives of the Journal. The right column is devoted mainly to advertising and interactive services for the user: the possibility, by subscription, browse the magazine online in pdf format, letters to the editor, the forum and polls. In the multimedia section you can see the photo galleries, and the videogallery audiogallery. It 's interesting to note that the news older are developed in a full-bodied, while news of the day are essential and concise and written at the bottom we find the Other information in the Gazzetta di Parma on newsstands today, which, according me, it's a bit 'at odds with the concept of an online newspaper that loses its function when it is necessarily incomplete and refers to reading the paper. The Republic

Parma.it ( http://parma.repubblica.it/?edizione=EdRegionale ) is the local edition of La Repubblica newspaper, whose website is richer and scrolling much longer. The structure is similar, but the interactivity is more: You can send photos, news, videos and launch proposals for debate. In the multimedia section there are many photo galleries and video of any event, most often sent by the readers themselves. Here it is interesting to note that the section devoted to the districts is managed through a blog ( http://centro-parma.blogautore.repubblica.it/ ): Parma each district has its own space in which we publish the news, very often supported by the comments or additions to the residents themselves.

Polis is another daily newspaper in the city of Parma and its province that site ( http://www.polisquotidiano.it /) allows you to browse the paper version for free. The remainder of the site is rather bare and provides basic services: the column of news updated in real time, with the ability to choose the source (Courier, Daily Republic, Sport, Sun 24 hour format), weather forecasts and a range of services such as video archive, radio, photo galleries, some of which however are only accessible after registration. Information

also of Parma has chosen to publish on the website ( http://www.informazionediparma.com/defaultparma.asp ) the paper version of the newspaper. In this case the site is reduced really the bone: in addition to leaf through the pages of the newspaper is free to consult the archive of previous editions and to send an email to the editor.

Lungoparma is instead the first online only newspaper in the city: http://www.lungoparma.com/ In this case we have a left side that borders on the middle which shows the news and the right column in which they find space is the vignette, the categories, the survey's most-read stories, popular tags, and records. Then the opportunity to receive the newsletter and to sign up. Through the section Work with us you can send messages of any kind or news, films and photographs and proposals riteranno more "suited to our editorial line will be turned into articles and surveys."

These essentially the media in my hometown.

How To Get Rid Of Bugs In Surgeonxmas

Newspapers online: Il Sole 24 ore and other ...

The 24 hours is one of the few newspapers in Italy (both print and online) to make dedicated services. His site has a different construction because it is anomalous compared to the newspaper, among other things, is the only one with a ticker that gives physically the idea of \u200b\u200bthe upgrade. It has a very Anglo-Saxon approach.
Top right on the home page find the link to Italianews: is a consortium of newspapers led by the Sun 24 hours (between others, Il Giorno, La Nazione, Il Resto del Carlino), owing also to the care of advertising, in which there is a "subsite" of news that is federal in the sense of created, activated and updated by several local newspapers of a certain weight. The peculiarity lies in the manner in which the subsite is created, ie a computer which selects the news sites of newspapers that are read and how to share the news that matters, which are then classified and published in Italianews. The construction site is, therefore, statistics, according to the relevance and impact that are part of the mechanisms by which they index the text.

The setting of the site of Corriere della evening does not differ much from that of the Republic: the column on the left is always more important than reporting the news. In the middle column in the order we FLASHnews 24 to slide, a link to the list of most read news and then zapping news: curious and interesting news from many different areas (culture, sport, entertainment, etc). In the right column we start with two services offered by the newspaper in the e-mail DiCola, which allows you to browse and download, for a fee, the daily newspaper and 20 days earlier in text or pdf. The other service is the historical archive, for easy access to free products since 1992. Below are the courier TV, which offers video and photo, in a logical "top" and "most viewed". Following a series of services, mixed advertising, including games, yellow pages, courier travel, dictionaries, library, etc.. At the bottom of the home page we have a list of blogs & forums

Day, The Nation , Il Resto del Carlino, Il Secolo XIX , Time , and L'Unione Sarda The Daily of Calabria Italianews are part of the Sun 24 hours. The sites of the first four are the same, just change the first news came, according to the head. The others have kept their own style, more or less similar except for some peculiarities. For example, the time has two windows and flash respectively Adnkronos Datasport.

What remains to be seen? We Il Giornale, Il Manifesto, Il Mattino, Il Messaggero, La Stampa and L'Unità (of course there are many more, but I cite only those that come to mind). The setting of the site in three columns is common to all newspapers, then managed in different ways. Some are included only from the middle of the home page, as in the morning and nelll'Unità. All sites are very "loaded" and the space is saturated, but the Morning, Unity and the Manifesto that leave a bit 'more breathing space with some distance White more than the other homepage. It 'surely the priorities of different stories: for example, almost all open this morning with the news on the issue of immigrants and the declaration of Berlusconi about it, while the Morning offers a news and a newspaper of national policy.

Better Face Wash Neutrogena Or Cetaphil?

newspapers online: The Republic

During the last lesson we learned that The Republic is followed by most of us as the first online newspaper. Why? The reasons are varied: from the simple habit (in the family reads the paper version always) the fact that it is faster than the updates in the Courier, or because it is closer to their political party.

The Republic is one of the newspapers on line to have a more integrated entertainment than advertising content online Italian newspaper. The online version is pretty much the transposition of the journal paper. The life of editors (of the newspapers in general) is similar in terms of those web of paper. There are times when there is no rush to upgrade, related to the peak use of the Internet: usually during the lunch break and after 18. The construction is such that no journalist chasing the pace of writing. Nevertheless, the site has its creativity and dynamism of its very strong compared to what is the traditional aspect of the first page paper. The choice of home page, even compared with a year ago, is to make the first page, at least in its upper part, is devoid of advertising. It will then adopt an attitude if we want more "subtle" but at least more respectful of the navigator: advertising is not seen immediately, but pops up when there's a pop up or is placed before watching a video, etc. Compared to the past, however, the difference is considerable: in principle, the advertising was intrusive, elegant POPC, mixed with the texts. The choice of a change was required, but also prompted by two reasons: you get to manage the overseas advertising on the web in different ways and advertising Traditional does not pay more. It 'still present in the home page, in the second half, and not always autodenunciata as such: for example, some parties are considered as ads but they are advertising the same applies to parts considered but are still branded services. Some lead to a special advertising partnership. In any case, it will never leave a blank space on the page, all available space is used, a little 'commercial reasons and a bit' to put the keys and access so that the site is counted in the research of engines. There are also systems aggregators of advertising related to the content of the article (cross marketing). The home page is extremely
long, has a very large scrolling. Has everything you could need: news, columns, spaces for interaction, information service, the multimedia part. It 's a fairly traditional construction: the important part is on the left, the part with the column headings and against - the menu is toggled. It is considered primarily the left side so that something else is still as you are going to spend some time voluntarily.

Other obvious characteristics are very much space and color. The printed newspaper suffer the limitation of choice, in an article, only a photo, while in the newspaper, you can create online photo galleries. The photograph on the Web is of great impact, allows you to enter more in the news. The photos are seen and sometimes much more of the same video. This tool has therefore a great advantage but also a major limitation: the delegation to the pictures (and video) gives a sort of excuse for a journalist for not having to work too much on the text. The problem we have here in Italy is that you write for the web only for what you write summaries and then insert the news paper. There is in fact a demand for a purely online journalism. Hardly a newspaper online is a new stand-alone text, insert only the agencies. The online editors are formed from 10% (wanting to be generous) of journalists of writing paper. But it is not everywhere: in other parts of the world because the Web is also a journalism investigative journalism, which will appear exclusively on the web. It is not the same thing on the internet and write on paper. Why? It 'obvious that the information on line has some peculiarities, related to the characteristics of the internet, which makes it very different from that of traditional media. And the first obvious feature is the speed. The risk is that the technology conditions the way we write. Looking at the home page of The Republic we can see that there is no text but only titles and the text is longer than four lines. Here it is incorrect to speak of on paper line, because it's a pool of news agencies, photos, news, commentaries, editorials, and opportunities, through interaction, to comment on (an innovation taken a bit 'too literally: For every news there Hundreds of comments that end up being no comments to other comments as a forum, and comments to the news).

The difference between web and paper of course also invests in the profession of journalist: the contracts of employment are different. The print journalist has more power, earn more, and generally there is no "down" to write to the online newspaper. Difficult to find signed pieces, but not known by the journalist's head. During the day, there are hardly any update of a story, there are only a reworking of the news agency, so there are no long texts. Even if, for example, a reporter wrote a piece published in the morning and is still in place, does not write an update on line during the day. This does not, unfortunately, not yet, in the minds of ours that journalism is still with the online version of superficiality, as an accessory to the press.

Webbys! Prize for the best online newspaper at The Guardian

When newspapers first began to spread online (historically, the relationship between journalism and the Internet was born in 1993), publishers and editors of newspapers understood immediately that it was not attractive for readers to find the same content on the website of the journal paper. Our online newspapers, however (one example, La Repubblica) still use the technique of repurposing that is, as its name implies, in reiterating the same web-content paper. How then should be a good newspaper online?

One suggestion comes to us from the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences which deals, among other things, to assign the Webbys: Internet international awards that have a section dedicated to online journalism (a kind of Oscars of the Internet.) Just yesterday, have been delivered and the judges awarded the prize for the best online British newspaper The Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/ . And 'the fourth time in the last five years that the head of London's won this award, deserves to have a look ... Among the other winners

famous brand names: the New York Times (for best copy-writing), the Economist (the best blog of political deepening), the Huffington Post (for the best political section of the Web) and ESPN (for the best sports section). And the Italians?

The first Festival of investigative journalism!

Carry a piece of news today that I was impressed, though a bit outside 'from the explanations of information online, because it seems a positive sign. On days 8, 9 and 10 May will be held in Marsala first Festival of investigative journalism organized by the city of Marsala in collaboration with Impersonator & Pistoia, Mismaonda and communication.
We have all learned that the investigation is the noblest form of journalism. The term, borrowed from the legal lexicon, reveals the intention to go beyond the ordinary sources. The nature of an investigation, is a symbol of what which is considered the ideal of the profession: to seek the truth. The investigation has been through a time of great fortune in our country during the '50s and '60s, and then going through a phase of decline during the 80s. It is estimated that about this time is exceeded, even if it is a commonplace of the critics of journalism that does not do investigations. Personally, I do not remember any in particular in recent years (but maybe you have a memory better than mine) ... A

inaugurated the festival will Marsala (very appropriate), Roberto Saviano, a recorded video for the occasion will be followed by the conferment of honorary citizenship to the Chief who arrested Provenzano. During three days of meetings will be held, debates, lectures and viewing of films and documentaries in Italy on information from investigative journalism, also in relation to the current state of crisis in newspapers and overbearing development of information online.
